Junior Science Curriculum

Grade 6 students will study the following 4 strands this year:
- Understanding life systems, and the topic will be on biodiversity.
- Understanding structures and mechanisms, and we will study flight.
- Understanding matter and energy, and the topic will be electricity and electrical devices.
- Understanding Earth and space systems, and we will study space.
Within each topic, the expectations are connected in increasing order of critical thinking so that students first learn and understand basic concepts within that topic. Using that knowledge, students then investigate a specific aspect of that topic using inquiry based learning. In the third general expectation, students extend their knowledge and apply it to study a more general concept.
